What Is A Membrane Filter Press?
Compared to standard chamber filter presses, membrane filter presses incorporate a secondary squeezing step after the filtration process. Specifically, elastic membranes are installed on both sides of the filter plates; introducing compressed air or water causes the membranes to expand and exert additional pressure on the filter cake, resulting in a drier cake.
Furthermore, the arrangement of filter plates in a membrane filter press differs from that of a conventional filter press, consisting of an alternating sequence of membrane plates and chamber plates.
How Does a Membrane Filter Press Work?
Membrane filter presses incorporate a secondary squeezing stage following the conventional filtration process to produce a drier filter cake.

Feeding
Slurry is pumped into the filter chambers through the feed pump.

Filtration
Solids are retained by the filter cloth, while filtrate passes through and flows out.

Membrane Squeezing
Compressed air or water expands the membrane plates to squeeze the filter cake again.

Cake Discharge
The filter cake after the second pressing is drier and easier to discharge.
